Korean Medical Professionals Share Gender-Affirming Surgery Expertise in Japan

Kangdong Sacred Heart Hospital announced on the 27th that medical professionals from its LGBTQ+ Center recently held an information session on gender-affirming surgery at Personal Health Clinic in Tokyo, Japan.
The information session went beyond the simple delivery of information and combined systematic guidance on major gender-affirming surgeries with individualized consultations. LGBTQ+ Center Director Kuylhee Kim and Professor Prisca Nahyun Hwang focused their presentation on the integrated care process extending from preoperative assessment to postoperative management.
Japanese medical professionals also participated in the event, listened to explanations of the LGBTQ+ Center's surgical methods, consultation system, and patient-response process, and continued discussions on possible future cooperation between medical professionals from the two countries. Interpretation provided by Japanese medical professionals minimized the language barrier and created an environment that enabled smooth communication between participants and clinicians.
This international exchange, taking place as demand for gender-affirming surgery that had centered on Thailand increasingly expands toward Korea, provided an opportunity to confirm the international competitiveness of the clinical experience and systematic care system accumulated by the LGBTQ+ Center.
Center Director Kuylhee Kim said, “We will continue our efforts so that all gender-diverse people can experience safe and respectful healthcare within a broader global network extending beyond Korea and Japan.”
The LGBTQ+ Center also signed a memorandum of understanding with IDATEN Clinic in Osaka, Japan, last month and plans to continue expanding its domestic and international networks so that Korea can establish itself as an East Asian hub for gender-affirming healthcare.
