In the multicenter KITE study involving eight medical institutions in Korea, most of the 382 people who had undergone at least one gender-affirming surgery showed clear improvements in quality of life, self-esteem, and mental health. Satisfaction with gonadectomy and chest or breast surgery was particularly high, confirming that medical intervention is effective in reducing gender incongruence. More than 90% of respondents said that they had experienced improved gender expression, improved quality of life, and increased self-esteem, and the median age at first surgery was 26. This was Korea's first study to establish a large medical institution-based cohort and demonstrate the positive effects of gender-affirming healthcare, and it was published in the latest issue of the international journal JPRAS.
